How to play

Durak ("fool") is played with a 36-card deck. The bottom card of the deck determines the trump suit. Everyone starts with 6 cards.

The attacker plays a card; the defender must beat it with a higher card of the same suit, or any trump if the attack is not a trump. Other players may throw in cards matching any rank already on the table (up to 6 attacks per bout, never more than the defender holds).

If the defender beats everything, the cards are discarded ("bito") and the defender attacks next. If the defender takes the cards instead, they join their hand and the player to their left attacks next. Hands refill to 6 from the deck after each bout.

When the deck runs out and your hand is empty, you leave the table. The last player holding cards is the Durak.
